GMC DUKW (Duck) for Sale

The GMC DUKW, nicknamed the "Duck" after how its letters sound, is an amphibious 6x6 truck derived from the CCKW. Its name isn't a backronym invented to match the nickname — it's General Motors' own internal code: D for the 1942 design year, U for "Utility," K for all-wheel drive, and W for the tandem, both-driven rear axles.

Designed by a team combining naval architects (Rod Stephens Jr. and Dennis Puleston) and an MIT engineer (Frank Speir), the DUKW was built in 21,147 units between 1942 and 1945. It carried troops and supplies straight off the sea during the landings in Sicily and Normandy, as well as across the Pacific (Guadalcanal, Saipan, Guam), before seeing further service in the Korean War.
